Fashion Mogul Liz Clairborne Dies

Liz Claiborne, a leading fashion designer, has died at the age of 78.
She died June 26, 2007 at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. She was suffering from stomach cancer for many years.
Claiborne came out in the 1970s with designs for women to wear to work to help them in the corporate world. She launched her own label in 1976 with husband Art Ortenberg. The company went public in 1981 and became the first company founded by a woman to be listed in the Fortune 500.
L a Lamb…
“With her debut fragrance, GWEN STEFANI’S iconic style goes beyond music, beyond fashion and beyond boundaries. Her signature fragrance is a fusion of masculine and feminine with a luscious floral scent that bursts with sparkling freshness and then wraps you in the warmth of sensual musks”. Avail here.

Ric Pipino & Rickys Open New Salon

Hair god RIC PIPINO and fun store RICKY’S have teamed up to open “Shears Hustle and Blow Salon” located at 124 Crosby Street, between Houston and Prince in New York’s trendy SoHo.
“Shears Hustle & Blow has been tacked onto the back of the flagship Ricky’s, and might just be the new place for all things punky and cheap. Any kind of hair can be managed here (cuts start at $50 for women, $35 for guys), and magenta mohawked stylists work their magic in front of mirrors decorated with Ouji Board sun and moon designs. In case there’s a wait, five iPod minis are docked at listening stations and filled with the indie, the edgy, the classic, and some artists you’ve probably never even heard of.
Thursdays through Saturdays, a DJ keeps the place rocking live. But best of all, the back of the salon opens straight up onto the flagship Ricky’s store. So if color line Framesi doesn’t do it for you, just follow the wavy neon pink lights into the shop, pick up a bottle of your chosen hue, and the salon will happily use it”. Source: CitySearch
Detroit Hair Wars…Mr. Little

Detroit hair stylist dies in motorcycle accident June 14th, 2007.
“One of the great “Hair Wars” artists named Mr. Little was killed in a motorcycle accident. I remember seeing Mr. Little perform miraculous hairdos — he invented the “hairycopter” (above) — and he was a true artist and performer. I met him years ago after I had worked on a movie with filmmaker Andrew Dosunmu about Hair Wars. We even did a big Hair Wars party last year in Los Angeles.
I once watched him hang a model upside down at the Apollo Theater in Harlem and cut her hair upside down while doing a kind of limbo dance. When the model stood back up again her hair was in a perfect shag. My condolences to the whole Hair Wars family. Rest in peace, Mr. Little. You were big”. Source: Kim Hastreiter – PAPER MAG

Working the lashes…

La Lopez loves the false eyelashes!
* Tip: Start by applying pencil eyeliner to your upper lash line. Smudge it slightly to create a smoky effect before applying the false lash. If needed use liquid eyeliner on the false lash band itself to help to conceal it. If you need to adjust the length of the lashes, cut the inner corner, since lashes at the outer corner tend to be longer. Hold the lashes with a tweezer and apply a very thin line of glue or adhesive along the base, let it sit for one minute before applying the false lashes as close to your natural lash line as possible. Hold and press the band down for a few seconds. Now apply more mascara to blend your lashes with the fake ones. SHU UEMURA has great lashes.
