Diana…
Today is the 10th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death. And she is missed.

Someone that knew her quite well was her hairstylist, Tess Rock, of the exclusive Daniel Galvin studio in London’s West End, having cut Diana’s hair for the last three years.
She said: “I did her hair on the Thursday, the day before she left for her last holiday with Dodi Fayed. She was really excited, really relaxed.
“She seemed particularly happy in the last year of her life, since her divorce. It was as if she had found herself.
“Even before Dodi, she knew exactly where she was going and what she was about. You could tell by recent pictures how happy she was.” Tess added: “Diana was an extremely caring and very fun-loving person, I will miss her greatly. Everyone at the salon will.
“I used to blow-dry her hair every day in her large bedroom at Kensington Palace.
“I would drive there in my Polo each morning. We started at 9am, or 10am if she went to the gym. It would only take about half an hour.
“She always insisted I take Saturday and Sunday off, even if she wanted her hair done on those days. That was the sort of caring person she was.
“As I worked, she would chat about her boys, William and Harry, or her charities which were her major concern, particularly against landmines.
“Her boys were everything to her, she was so proud of them and loved talking about them.

“She got really excited and bubbly when she knew they were coming round to see her. I will miss those little chats. Once every six weeks she would come into the salon for a colour to brighten up her hair or to have a cut. She had a perm a couple of years ago but we grew that out to give her a tighter, healthier look. It was a more manageable style for when she was away on her charity missions.
“The only thing she insisted on was her fringe. She always wanted a fringe. That was her little thing.
“Other than that, she very much did what you wanted her to do. She cared about her look but left it in your hands.
“We got used to seeing her. People don’t expect to see someone like that, but she got on well with everyone and said hello to everybody.
“Clients would come up to her quite freely and have a chat or say ‘Hi’.
“She was a very keen people-watcher, she loved watching people. But unfortunately they liked watching her as well.
“Diana loved being in a normal environment. Because of the person she was, you would expect her to be very particular about her hair and give you a hard time. But she was not like that. She was very easy going, a nice young lady.”
Rest in peace Lady Diana.

Beautiful Liya the first black model to have a contract for Estee Lauder cosmetics. I remember Iman working for Lauder when she first came on the scene in the 70’s, but I guess it wasn’t a contract deal. Read Time Magazine’s article on the role of race in fashion here.
