Talia Soto & Xuxa Share a Birthday…

One of my favorite beauties Talisa Soto had her birthday party on March 27.

Talisa and I worked together several times before she started acting. Love her!

I had the pleasure of doing Xuxa’s hair and makeup when she first came to New York to work with The Ford Model Agency. It wasn’t until I made a trip to Brazil that I learned just how famous she was all over South America. Xuxa didn’t speak that much English when we worked together and I still know very little Portugese. But we shared a sweetness between us that I will always remember very fondly.

Happy Birthday to both of these lovely ladies! xxooxx

The Artistry of John Toth…

N.Y.C. based illustrator JOHN TOTH. Toth’s drawings play with gender and celebrate S-E-X, especially “alternate” forms of sexuality such as “fetish” and the genre of the dominant female or “Femdom”. His work mixes the classic imagery of dominatrixes, “pin-ups” and muscle men with references from various sub-cultures such as rockers, bikers, punks and nightclub culture. The drawings and imagery that emerge from H.O.T. are meant to amuse, provoke and stimulate in a very elegant, powerful and stylistically graphic manner. Inspiration for the work comes from a myriad of sources; books, films, photographs and magazine cuttings. Fashion plays an important role and Toth regularly cites his favorite “top 3″ designers for source material; THIERRY MUGLER’s 50’s inspired glamour and futuristic “cyber women, JEAN PAUL GAULTIER’s tinkering with the polarities of masculine and feminine, and VIVIENNE WESTWOOD’s clever and charming unorthodoxy … all merge in Toth’s House.

John Toth is also a haircutter, D.J. and make-up artist. He trained at Vidal Sassoon in London (for haircuts and color) and Antenna,London (for hair extensions). He moved to N.Y.C. in 1991(where after a brief gig working for Vidal Sassoon) began doing wigs and make-up (for various drag queens and “showgirls”) at Patricia Field’s original 8th St store “The House of Field”. From there he started to do fashion/editorial work by assisting a top make-up artist working with major fashion photographers, including Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon, as well as doing make-up for many fashion shows.
He then began to work on his own, doing body painting for Steven Klein and make-up for magazines such as “The Face”,”Visionaire” and “Luomo Vogue”. During all this time (while concentrating and focusing on his illustration work more seriously), he met the brilliant people behind the legendary nightclub “Jackie 60″ and started showing his drawings there in the form of flyers, slide projections and posters. Other shows at nightclubs followed including: “The Sound Factory”,”Pork”,”The Lure” and “Click and Drag”. An avid club go-er and huge fan of house music, John taught himself to beat mix and began d.j.ing. He currently d.j.’s at corporate and charity events, private parties, “B-Bar” and “The David Barton Gym”.

Diana Ross Celebrates 65 Years…

And she still and always will be the Supreme Boss Diva I fell in love with as a teenager growing up in Detroit. First as The Supremes a trio with Mary and Flo, later with the same girls but singing lead in Diana Ross and The Supremes, next as the solo act Diana Ross, and finally just Diana!

At some point she got into wearing her hair big and curly and pretty much hasn’t let go of that style till this day, and I do love her that way, but I’ll always cherish her in those fantastic wigs styled in the MoTown version of a Vidal Sassoon look. I hope Miss Ross had a Happy Birthday yesterday March 26th. I love you Diana!
